Film Stage: Exhibition

EXHIBITION

Exhibition is an act of showing or displaying something to an audience it also includes where for e.g. a multiplex cinema. Exhibition is the retail branch of the film industry. It involves not the public screening, usually for paying customers in a site devoted to such screenings, the movie theater. What the exhibitor sells is the experience of a film (and, frequently, concessions like soft drinks and popcorn) there job is to make the experience pleasant and comfortable offering a wide variety of concessions.

Exhibitors to some extent control how films are programmed, promoted, and presented to the public, they have considerable influence over the box-office success and, more importantly, the reception of films. Exhibition includes viewing location and the accessibility; parking spaces, public transport, wheelchair access etc this is all considered when putting films in the cinema also  the population of target audience in that specific area determines the amount of screens this film maybe placed in. How it’s exhibited; 2d and 3d but 4d has not fully been established.

In order to keep the customers entertained and coming to the cinema the exhibiters need to find new and different ways to keep them entertained. To survive, the cinema industry had to restructure and innovate, creating new propositions and experiences that were engaging for today's moviegoers, and that set the cinema experience apart from watching films at home.

A multiplex is a movie theater complex with multiple screens, typically six to ten screens. They are usually housed in a specially designed building. Sometimes, an existing venue undergoes a renovation where the existing auditoriums are split into smaller ones, or more auditoriums are added in an extension or expansion of the building. The largest of these complexes can sit thousands of people and are sometimes referred to as a megaplex.

what makes a film successful?

  • However the film has to be exciting with well know actors to attract the audiences to the cinema along with a major storyline.

  • Along with these is how well the marketing is pitch towards the audience which is why its essential for actors to promote their films and attend interviews along with a good marketing campaign which consists of trailers, posters and even inviting  movie critics to the film’s premiere.

    • To ensure a film is a success depends on the amount of gross revenue taken at the box office on the opening weekend. If takings are higher then the production costs then the film is seen as a success to the production company.
